Voco Leicester

We only had a couple of desserts in the restaurant since we’d eaten out, but the cheese board and sticky toffee pudding were lovely. The staff were wonderful at dessert and again at breakfast, where the cooked buffet was fresh, well kept and had a wide range of items. We spent a night in one of the hot tub rooms. It was huge, had everything we needed and looked out over Leicester Tigers’ rugby ground. The hot tub was hot and ready when we arrived. Everything was very clean and well looked after. The man at reception was friendly and helpful. He explained the room and hotel, talked us through dining choices and breakfast times, and gave us details to refer back to. Reception and restaurant staff were all happy and helpful. We’ll definitely be back.

The room was a good size with modern decor, and the hotel was clean and tidy. We stayed during a rugby game next door and didn’t hear a thing, so the soundproofing worked really well. Breakfast was good, and the nearby parking was cheap. I usually stay in the town centre, but this will probably be my regular choice when I’m in Leicester. Well worth the money.

The breakfast was actually pretty good, and the quirky room was comfortable, with plenty of tea and coffee options, a fridge and a kettle. I barely spoke to the staff, but they seemed polite and pleasant enough. The hotel itself is okay, but problems with the stay mean I probably wouldn’t choose it again. Parking is the big issue. There are fewer than 20 spaces at the hotel and they’re always booked. Even if you get one, it costs £20 a night, which is frankly a disgrace. There are nearby car parks, but they close entirely if there’s a rugby or football match that day or the next. The surrounding side streets are all residents’ permit parking, so you could end up with a PCN. There are better places in the city where you don’t have to scramble to park. The beds are also oddly short, about half a foot shorter than standard. I’m only 5'9 and my feet hung over the end. I’ve never had that happen before.

We stayed for one night during my wife’s Christmas work party. The place was spotless, and our room had plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. It also had a big TV and digital radio, and the bed was comfortable. The shower was probably the best I’ve ever used. Breakfast was 10/10 and a must if you stay. The staff were friendly and helpful.
