The room was filthy, with black mould all over the bathroom. The sink had a strange white substance smeared all over it, and the beds were squeaky and close to breaking. We had a horrible night's sleep because the place wasn't soundproof, and we couldn't wait to get home, so we skipped breakfast. I stayed here with my parents a few years ago, and the hotel was incredibly run down, with rubbish and dirty mattresses all over it. There were a lot of scary-looking people around, to be honest. The staff were okay, though not very polite or attentive. Even locals felt sorry for us when we told them where we were staying. The hotel may have been updated since then, but my experience was really bad.

We stayed on 20/08/16, and I'd go back in a heartbeat. The location is fantastic, the staff are friendly and couldn't do enough for us, and the room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. At 44 quid including breakfast, it was brilliant value for money. If you're expecting the Ritz, go to the Ritz. This is what it is, and we had a great stay. Thanks :-)

The staff are very nice and helpful, but the management really needs to refurbish the place. One mattress was old and very uncomfortable, and parts of the ceiling gypsum are coming down, perhaps from a water leak or something. Hot water isn't always on, so you have to tell staff beforehand if you plan to shower. Some internal doors need fixing because they bang loudly, especially at night. You also have to ask staff for extra toilet rolls and soap.

The room had bed bugs, a broken bed and dirty sheets when me, my parents and three siblings stayed there. The bathroom was small, the light didn't work, the mirror was smashed and the door didn't really shut. The windows were really disgusting and the food wasn't great either. It felt like an abandoned house people were living in and renting out. I had nowhere else to go at the time, but I'm shocked the place is still in use and by how good some of the reviews are. I wouldn't recommend staying there.

I only ended up at the Leicester City Hotel because several other hotels were booked or far too expensive. On arrival, we had to pay, which surprised me, and the desk clerk seemed extremely anxious, disorganised and distracted. They couldn't understand that we'd amended our booking from four rooms to two well before the date. We were asked to inspect the rooms, and I found a used, unclean toilet. The rooms felt stark and depressing. The bed linens appeared clean at first, but the side table had crack pipe burns all over it. There were no lights apart from the overhead one, and the hallways stayed noisy until quite late. I felt very unsafe and wedged a chair under the door handle so it couldn't be turned. I'm glad I did, because around 10.30 at night someone tried to get into my room. The door was locked, but it was still deeply unsettling. I could hear the person trying most of the other door handles along the hallway. I didn't try breakfast after a sleepless night in this dive of a hotel. I expected food poisoning. When I got home, I found four enormous itchy insect bite welts on my leg. I saw no evidence of bed bugs, and I looked carefully, but not knowing what caused the bites is almost worse. I'm astonished this place hasn't been shut down. Do not stay here.
