Haslem Hotel

The rooms felt brand new, modern and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was good. There isn't a hotel car park, which is understandable for a city centre place, but there are plenty of public car parks nearby. I was unlucky with some business storage beside my window, so I got no sleep from 4:30. At check-in, the gentleman at reception was on the phone with someone, and I had to wait about 10 minutes.

The location is hard to beat, with all the essentials and a huge choice of little niche shops close by. The rooms are really clean, the interior design is beautiful, and the service was friendly and helpful. I love this place.

We stayed two nights in the apartment, two adults and a child. It was spacious and nice, with a proper kitchen, but the sofa bed we'd been told would be there alongside the double bed wasn't made up when we arrived. There was no extra duvet or pillows either. The room phone to reception didn't work, and it was late and we were too tired to walk all the way back to complain. One of us slept badly that night. After we raised it the next day, they brought a single bed. Breakfast wasn't included, and the buffet was average. Parking costs extra, and I wasn't impressed that reception is in the middle of a bar with loud music. Overall, it wasn't worth the money.

We waited at least 15 minutes after our plates were cleared, hoping to order desserts and more drinks, but no staff member came over. My daughter eventually had to go to the bar to pay. We won't return or recommend the place. My daughter had booked a birthday meal for me and my son. Two of us ordered the Christmas dinner, and my son had the Sunday roast. The Christmas dinner looked nothing like the promotional pictures, and the tiny pieces of carrot were a disgrace for a supposedly 5-star restaurant. There was one slice of turkey, very overcooked ham, and the driest dinner I've had. All three adults ordered drinks, which arrived quickly, but no one checked whether we were happy or wanted another.
