Ropewalks Hotel

The rooms are bigger than you'd expect in the city centre, and they're clean, modern and well equipped. The staff are professional, relaxed and friendly. Ropewalks is great value, and the hotel is close to nightlife, shops and restaurants in a beautiful, lively city with plenty to do. Just behind the hotel is Dicey Reillys, which I think has the same owners and staff. The crew there are great too. Neil looked after us and made us feel welcome. It's a good place for a drink, watching football or just chilling out, and the bar snacks were superb. I'm already looking forward to breakfast at Ropewalks tomorrow. I'll definitely be back.

Our earlier stay in October was enjoyable. On the 4th floor we had little trouble with noise or the room, and the staff were quite nice. This weekend we were on the 1st floor, where we could hear people screaming and shouting on the street at all hours. There are nightclubs outside, so expect noise at night. We could also hear the guests next door using their bathroom through the very thin walls. The TV seemed to be hanging off the wall, as in the photos, but it didn't feel secure and seemed a bit dangerous when getting up from that side of the bed. We were also charged twice for the room: we'd booked and paid on booking.com, but the receptionist said we hadn't paid and charged my partner an extra €109. When we pointed out the duplicate payment, he had an attitude and said it would be refunded. The location is good, but the stay wasn't worth it.

I was unsure about booking because I expected noise, and I'm sure it can get noisy when students are around, but it was quiet during my stay. The hotel was great: good location, big clean rooms with everything you need, and fabulous service. Breakfast was cooked to order and came quickly. The restaurant manager is a star. Great value for money, highly recommend.

The staff were professional, though blunt, and the hotel feels modern and clean with the amenities you'd expect for this price. The trouble was the noise, especially late at night and on weekends. It's between several nightclubs that stay open until 3-4am on weekends, which made for an uncomfortable, restless stay. If you're there for the clubs, this could be perfect. For a relaxing break, I probably wouldn't recommend it.
