Scarisbrick Hotel

It turned out to be a really good stay, even though I didn't expect much after seeing the low ratings. The rooms were a good size and clean, the beds were comfy and everything worked. Breakfast was great too, though it felt a bit short staffed. Everyone we met on staff was friendly, and they let us leave our bags there after checkout. The location was brilliant, within easy walking distance of everywhere we went as tourists. I'd recommend it.

The food spread was huge, with plenty of meat, tasty casseroles and soups, dairy products, and salads. Britannia's free Wi-Fi was strong and reliable too, so my cube updated quickly and we had a great time using my Amazon Fire TV CUbe. Maybe there was some Ghost Club Paranormal mileage in that? The radiator pipes did rumble on our first night because there was air in the central heating system. They probably should have checked it before we arrived, but a plumber fixed it in five minutes.

The breakfast buffet was very good, and we enjoyed the evening meal too. We stayed for two tribute nights, with Rod Stewart and Elvis, and both shows were excellent. The 2-for-1 bar deal ran from 7pm to 10pm: buy a bottle of wine and get two, so the two of us only had to go to the bar once all night. Brilliant. I'd definitely recommend it.

The entertainment from Wendy and Spencer was really good, and the food was generally good too. I did get sick on the last night and blamed the spicy tomato soup at first, but the stomach cramps made me wonder if it could actually have been food poisoning. The staff were okay, worked hard clearing up and kept the meal items topped up, though there wasn't much chat or smiling. We stayed four nights on a coach tour in room 218. It was reasonably clean, but some furniture was damaged. The bathroom seemed fairly new, though the bath enamel was chipped and the only privacy at the window was a net curtain. The shower took 15 minutes to warm up. The location was handy for both the town centre and promenade, but the nightclub right next door kept me awake on the last night. There was no way to phone reception, so I went down and they moved me to another room, which was great. There were no guest information books in the room.
