The sea views are lovely, and you’re right by the pier and arcades in a beautiful part of town. We found it reasonably priced and would consider coming back. The staff were welcoming, though the car park entrance wasn’t clearly explained. It’s down the side of the building, or you can drive just behind it to find the parking area.

My partner and I have just got back from a weekend at the Grand hotel. It felt homely, and our room suited me well as I’m disabled. The food was fantastic, with plenty to choose from, and the staff were friendly and happy to help with anything. We had a great stay and I can’t wait to visit again. Regards, Patricia Evans and Michael Jones.

We’ll definitely return, though next time we’ll book room only. The soups and cakes were really nice, but the food could be better with more budget for the chefs. The price was very reasonable, and everyone on staff was lovely. Our room was spotless, with lovely views, and the location was fabulous. The balcony-like space beside the main bar looks like it would be a lovely place to sit with a coffee in summer. It’s a beautiful old building from 1901, so naturally some areas need attention. Thanks to all the staff.

We got a free upgrade to a premier room, with a sea-facing view and a little seating area where we could snack and watch TV. We were there for five days on a coach trip with a friend, and it suited us perfectly because we wanted a quiet break. The buffet was basic, but there was always enough of what we wanted, and more. Compliments to Michael the chef for the food, and to the lady who greeted us each day when we came to dine. They were both so kind and engaging. The hotel was spotless, and the staff were helpful, courteous and friendly. We’re planning another visit. Well done to everyone who works at The Grand. Best wishes, see you soon, Mrs Thorpe & Mrs Whitley

The first impression was poor. People were smoking in the crowded entrance, and the reception area smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. We’d booked because my partner and I were finishing a walk nearby and expected somewhere comfortable to stay, but the experience was extremely disappointing from arrival onwards. Our room was shabby and tired. Both the main ceiling light and the wall light were out, so there wasn’t enough light, and the toilet door lock was broken, meaning the door wouldn’t shut and there was no privacy. The bathroom was dirty, with stains running up the wall by the toilet and several cracked tiles. It raised serious hygiene and maintenance concerns. The corridors didn’t seem to be looked after either. Empty beer glasses left outside rooms when we arrived were still there when we checked out the next day. At reception, we also saw another couple report blood all over their bedroom and ask to be moved, which was very concerning. We asked for two extra pillows and were told we were “on the list.” More than two hours passed without them arriving, so we had to go back to reception and ask again. I took photos of all the problems we found. The pictures used to advertise the hotel online also look nothing like the rooms provided, which I think is misleading. For the price, the whole stay was disgusting, filthy and completely unacceptable, more like a homeless hostel than a hotel. The condition, cleanliness and service were far below any reasonable standard.
