Grange Portland Hotel

The room was clean and the staff were friendly. The hotel is lovely and really convenient, right beside the British Museum and within walking distance of pretty much everything else worth seeing in London.

I booked six months ahead so I could attend my son's graduation, knowing September would be busy and hoping to have a good stay. Instead, I was put in a basement room with a window directly onto a busy pavement. People walked and worked right beside it, leaving me with no privacy and in full view of passersby. Footsteps, conversations, and other outside noise kept going, and I couldn't rest. For a paid stay tied to such an important occasion, the room was completely unsuitable. The lack of privacy and constant noise were unacceptable. I recorded video and audio of the conditions and strongly advise future guests to check where their room is located.

The staff made our stay really pleasant, breakfast was good, and our room was spotless. The Underground and bus stops are very close, and there are parks at both ends of the street where you can relax in the sun. We loved staying here and would happily come back on our next visit. The room was a bit dated, some tiles were cracked, and the bed felt too hard for me, but nothing was actually broken, so those things weren't a problem for us.

I was shocked this place has four stars. The basement rooms are right next to where I was meant to sleep, very run-down, and stuffy and warm with no aircon. Really disappointing, and horrible.
