Abel or Mabel from the breakfast team was lovely from the first morning, always greeting us with a smile and checking if we needed anything before breakfast finished around 10 a.m. James or Jim, the glasses-wearing receptionist, was also kind and helpful when I raised the room-cleaning issue. He went up himself, took out the rubbish, brought clean towels, and asked if I needed anything else. I really appreciated that. The location is convenient and the room was quiet enough for a comfortable stay. But housekeeping was disappointing. My friend and I asked twice over two days for my room to be cleaned, and it wasn't, though my friend's room was serviced. When my colleague asked for a glass to be changed, a staff member said they don't replace glasses or mugs. Housekeeping only emptied rubbish and left fresh towels. Another man at reception was unfriendly from the start. When we asked where to get spoons and forks, he just pointed at the disposable cutlery and barely spoke. The hotel is well placed and some staff were great, but the housekeeping and the attitude of certain staff need work.
The staff were very helpful and the location is fantastic. We did have an issue with the room, which wasn't as clean as we expected, and my wife and I were disappointed. We asked to move, but the hotel was full for an event, so they couldn't change rooms right away. They said there should be more rooms available in a few days and that we could switch then. We were fine with that and ended up staying in the room we had.
The friendly staff, gym, and handy location were the good parts. The rest of the room was a letdown for the price and brand. There was black mould in the bathroom, dirt on the showerhead, and the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned properly. The carpet was dirty too, and the sheets had marks. I also found the bed uncomfortable. I was so surprised by the condition that I cleaned some of the bathroom myself. Cleanliness and a comfortable bed are basic expectations, and I didn't get either here. I've had cleaner rooms, better beds, and a nicer breakfast at Premier Inn for less money. This felt overpriced and below the standard I associate with the brand.
Getting to the CIPD Conference was easy from here. I like walking, so I walked the 19 minutes to the venue each day. The room was neat and had all the supplies and facilities I needed, and the staff were courteous and helpful. Breakfast was very good too. I saw Diane each day over my three-day stay, and she was genuinely nice and helpful. I'm leaving today and honestly don't feel like going. I've had a great time at this hotel, and I hope to stay here again when I'm in Manchester.
James and Harrison were so welcoming and attentive, and helped us with the tech for our football tickets. That made a real difference from the moment I arrived. The hotel was spotless and comfortable throughout. Breakfast had lots of tasty choices and was a great start to the day. I had a fantastic stay and will definitely come back. I'd happily recommend it.
