The Luttrell Arms Hotel

We went for lunch with family, and the food was okay, but since we’d missed lunch by a few minutes there were only about six items to choose from. It was uncomfortable being there. The friendly atmosphere it used to have seemed gone, and we felt watched. We ordered one drink each, but only three arrived. When we said the fourth was missing, we were told we’d only ordered three and had to pay straight away before it would be served. The barman even brought the card machine over, as if he wouldn’t start making the coffee until we paid. We pointed out how rude that felt, and were then given three tiny biscuits. Before that, I’d seen what looked like a regular at the bar being charged an extra 10p on his bank card. The barman had already taken payment, then realised it was 10p extra for the ale he’d charged for. We were shocked, and would have left then if we hadn’t already ordered food. On our way out, I heard a woman at reception shout information about cream teas to some other customers, speaking to them like naughty children who’d done something wrong. Sadly, I won’t return unless things change.

We had a nice Saturday lunch in a beautiful place with an open fireplace. The food was good, though the menu felt limited. There was no steak, and the nearest option was a good burger. I’d expected a wider menu.

We stayed for a couple of days with our dog, and the staff were super. The food was lovely, and a special mention to the two people serving breakfast. There was a bowl of dog treats both mornings, and they even brought a sausage for our dog. A lovely stay, and credit to all the staff.

The place looked charming from outside, which is why we visited on January 3rd, but the experience was a huge letdown. Even though we were the first customers there, we didn’t feel valued. Other tables had placemats and napkins, while our cutlery was just left in the middle of the table, rolled in a napkin. We watched staff set the nearby tables properly for later arrivals, but we weren’t given placemats. The room was incredibly cold, too. When we mentioned it, staff said the heating was “automatic” and did nothing to help. The fish and chips were extremely greasy. We left feeling upset and uncomfortable.
