The hotel was fine for our visit to Nairn for the parkrun. The run starts just a couple of minutes away on foot, and it’s also only about a five-minute walk to town for food and a supermarket.

We popped in for a beer, then the interesting decor made us check out the menu. We ended up getting the haggis stack, which was excellent. Quite a few other diners arrived while we were there, and their food looked good as well.

I’d been to the carvery twice before and really enjoyed it, so I took a friend yesterday as a treat. This time, the Yorkshire puddings were like paper and we couldn’t eat them. The parsnips, carrots and cauliflower were almost mashed. At 3:35 they cleared everything away, even though it’s meant to finish at 4, so there was nothing more for us to have. Nobody asked how the meal was, or I would have told them. Sorry, I won’t be back. I suppose you have to come early if you want a decent meal.

The bedroom was clean and spacious, and the food was decent too. It’s in a fantastic spot, quite close to the beautiful beach, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed the Sunday carvery, especially the very nice beef. There was a good choice of wines, beers and cider, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
