New Lanark Mill

The restaurant and bar team were so accommodating, and everyone greeted us warmly as soon as we arrived. The rooms felt modern, and the staff were lovely throughout. We had a fantastic visit and I'll definitely come back.

Those riverside walks by the River Clyde were a real highlight, and the setting is outstanding. Parking was easy too. The New Lanark Mill Hotel itself is a beautifully preserved old cotton mill, with impressive architecture and an authentic feel. Our bedroom was comfortable for the night, though the bed was a little soft. The welcome from the front-of-house staff was very good, but things changed in the bar and restaurant. Service there felt unfriendly and short on warmth, which made the atmosphere unwelcoming. The wine choices by the glass were poor, so matching wine to our food was basically impossible unless we bought a bottle for around £40. We later found that bottle sells for about £10, which felt unreasonable and inflexible. The meal didn't live up to the menu's promise either. The seafood linguine was said to have king prawns, but the prawns were very small. The deep-fried haggis was underwhelming and not particularly enjoyable, and the menu felt over-hyped for what arrived. Two of us paid £105, which didn't feel like good value given the food and service. It's a remarkable historic property in a fabulous location, but the dining and hospitality seriously let it down. That's a shame, given its potential.

The spa was a lovely experience, and Shelia was lovely. We both enjoyed the pool, sauna and steam room, though a jacuzzi would've been a nice extra. The staff were friendly and polite, and the restaurant menu worked well for both dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was a continental buffet with hot dishes cooked to order. We had a lovely overnight stay before Christmas, with beautiful decorations throughout. We'll definitely be back. Thank you.

The village square at midnight on Hogmanay/Ne'erday was magical, and a memory we'll treasure. The seasonal decorations and relaxing surroundings made the stay feel special. We were so pleased that we booked Easter before checking out. We used to visit regularly, but hadn't been back since Mr Stirrat moved on. Hearing he was back convinced us to book the New Year package in a Waterhouse. From early check-in through departure, the service was impeccable. I reported a window issue when we arrived, and the handyman was already fixing it by the time I walked back to the room. Everyone we met, from reception and the bar to housekeeping and maintenance, was genuinely cheerful, helpful, and keen to assist. It was clear the workforce was happy and well led. The room was clean, comfortable, well equipped, and of a high standard. I can't think of a single negative. Well done, Mr Stirrat. You've got a team you can rightly be proud of.
