The secluded location was nice, with easy access into Newbury, and the room itself was good. But it hadn’t been cleaned properly: the shower floor was dirty, there were crumbs by the toaster, and stale water was left in the kettle. Breakfast was disappointing, just boxes of cereal and bread, butter and jam for toast. A proper room clean before we arrived would’ve earned a much higher rating.

Next time I’m in Newbury, this is where I’ll look first. It has so much more character than a generic, soulless hotel.

The hosts were great and very accommodating. The place is laid out well, with plenty of space, good facilities and a noticeable eye for detail. Everything was very clean, especially the fresh, ultra-clean sheets on a comfortable bed. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed, whether they stay one night or a week. Highly recommend, and I’ll be back. Thanks to the hosts.

The Hayloft is in a lovely, quiet spot, just 3 miles from Newbury Town. We enjoyed our 2 night stay. The loft room and bathroom were spacious, warm, cosy and very clean. There’s a good sized shower or a freestanding bath, and the bed was very comfortable with fresh linen. Breakfast supplies included bread, milk, orange juice, crumpets, yogurts, jams, cereals such as muesli and Weetabix, and breakfast bars. There was plenty of tea and coffee, though very few sugar cubes, which was a slight issue since my partner takes 1 sugar in drinks. The only other small drawback was no full length mirror near a power point, which I needed to dry and style my hair and get ready for a special occasion. A cheval mirror would have helped, as would a couple of lap trays for eating meals.
