Gibside Hotel

The Sunday lunch was freshly cooked, generous, and great value, with unbelievable gravy. The team were so welcoming and friendly. It was such a good meal that we only wished we’d saved room for pudding.

The staff were brilliant throughout our wedding at the Gibside Hotel. Joy, Michael and especially Johnny looked after us and helped make the day feel perfect. The Strathmore room was beautifully decorated for the wedding breakfast, and the food was excellent. We had a superior room, though I’m not sure it really was superior. Breakfast would have been 10/10 if they’d served the crispy bacon I asked for on both days. I don’t like it undercooked, and they never brought it crispy. Even so, we’d definitely recommend the hotel for a wedding or other celebration, and we’re looking forward to coming back to try the award-winning Sunday lunch.

We had a fabulous afternoon at the bottomless brunch. The sharing board was fantastic, the prosecco good, and the cocktails excellent. The service was the best part. Thanks, Gibside, though we weren’t remembering much by the end!

I’ve been here about a week and a half while travelling up for a family emergency. As a 34-year-old woman travelling alone, my experience might be different from that of many other guests, who seem to be retirees or people travelling for work. The staff have been the real highlight. Every one of them has been kind, professional but relaxed, and incredibly helpful. They work together like a family, and the care they put into the place makes it special. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, and well equipped, even in the standard package. I’ve tried quite a few dishes from the menu and all of them have been delicious. The chefs clearly care about the food. The shared areas are pleasant and nicely decorated. I’ve felt safe here, and have enjoyed some beautiful nearby walks by myself nearly every evening without ever feeling uncomfortable. There are stairs and apparently no lift option, so it may not suit someone with mobility issues. Otherwise, top marks. Given why I came, the staff made my stay enjoyable in a way that feels like a small miracle. If I’m back in the area, I’ll only consider staying here.
