The locally sourced steak from the specials menu was cooked perfectly, and it’s the best I’ve ever had. We also loved the service: the team were friendly, knew their stuff, and got the level of attention just right. The pub is beautifully decorated, cosy but spacious, and our indoor table looked over the village green. They even had Hawkstone on tap, my partner’s favourite, which you rarely find in most pubs. We’d walked the Three Churches Walk several times and always thought the pub looked lovely, but hadn’t stopped before. Since we’d been to The Three Blackbirds, run by the same company, we decided to try The Packhorse Inn for a Saturday evening meal. It was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back, especially for meat night on the last Friday of the month. (Can’t rate rooms as we didn’t stay overnight)

It costs a bit more than some places, but I’m happy to pay extra for a meal this good. I had lunch here midweek and, fussy as I am, couldn’t fault the food or service. All three courses were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.

The staff were so smiley and welcoming. Thanks for a fantastic meal, we’ll definitely be back and I can’t wait to bring my family. We had Sunday roast, chicken for me and pork for my partner, and shared each other’s. It was the best roast we’ve had in Suffolk since moving here three years ago. I’m not usually a pork fan, but it was amazing and I’d order it next time. The tarte tatin we shared was hands down the best dessert we’ve ever eaten. Excellent service and fantastic food.

It’s a great hotel for a getaway, with good food, excellent service, and an extensive wine list. The rooms are clean and comfortable for an overnight stay. The road was being dug up, which restricted access, but that won’t last forever. The famous bridge is only a short walk away.
