I came for lunch on 14 Feb 26 rather than staying. The food was superb and properly hot, and the dining areas were beautiful, with a fire and a warm welcome on a cold, bright day. The host was very hospitable, and the waitress friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.

I first came here ten years ago for a short business stay, and returned in 2026. I still wasn’t disappointed. The service was excellent, and the owners have clearly taken great care of the place.

We arrived hoping for a late lunch, but the kitchen had closed to prepare for evening service 20 minutes earlier. We were happy just to have a drink, then the lovely woman behind the bar, whom another reviewer had called aggressive and ginger, offered to ask the chef if they’d make something for us. The chef kindly prepared two outstanding, very late lunches, and the same bar lady served them. The value was fantastic. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful meal and such a welcoming experience. Keep up the great work.

I know this pub well as a local and usually find it pleasant, but lunch was a disappointment. Kids were running around behind the bar, the service was terrible, and the moody waitress didn’t offer sauces or cutlery. £13 for a sandwich is a joke. We won’t be back soon. What a shame.

The Ring of Bells is a wonderful base for exploring Dartmoor’s awe-inspiring countryside, right in the heart of the pretty village of North Bovey. We’ve had another lovely stay at our favourite inn in the area. It has comfortable bedrooms with modern bathrooms, a very good restaurant menu, and a cosy, welcoming bar for everyone. The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. It’s everything I like about an English inn.
