Mour Hotel

The hotel looks amazing, and the rooms are beautifully decorated. But the bed was so hard we couldn’t sleep, so we checked out early. That was the one thing that ruined it. I left at 3am and didn’t even get an apology.

I was gone within minutes. The bed was dirty, with stains on the sheets and floor, and it was so uncomfortable that the floor might have been better. I’d paid for the nicest room, an Executive suite, but the hotel’s advertised large flat screen TVs turned out to be old, small 25 inch sets. The woman at reception didn’t seem to care, gave me a refund straight away, and I left.

I used to come here at least twice a week and usually spent around £40 each visit. The hotel has nice facilities, but the manager’s behaviour has put me off completely. One time, I ordered a steak costing over £45 and asked for medium rare. It arrived clearly well done, so I politely asked at the bar if they could change it. At that price, I expected it to be cooked as requested. Instead, the manager came over in her heels with the waiter and lectured me in front of other diners. She insisted it was cooked correctly and that I was wrong, then said she’d replace it “but only as a favour.” She even poked the steak with her fingers at the table. People nearby were visibly shocked. One asked me, “Did she really just speak to you like that?” I later spoke to her privately about how condescendingly she’d treated me, like I was a schoolchild. Rather than sort it out, she barred me from the premises. The place has potential, but it’s no surprise to me that it’s for sale. A good manager can lift a hotel; a rude and dismissive one can run it down, and that’s what seems to be happening here.

I felt deflated by our little trip away as a couple, with four children at home, hoping for a bit of time to relax. We were met by incredibly rude staff. On arrival, reception was dismissive, with no smile, and told us to wait because check-in wasn’t until 2pm, even though we’d paid for early check-in. There was no response when we mentioned that. We asked reception to move our afternoon to later and ended up sorting it out ourselves. I was shocked by the staff at that point. The room felt about -5 degrees. There was no shampoo or conditioner in the shower. Reception said they only provide shower gel, then told me they don’t provide anything when I asked if they could send some up. There are no shops nearby, so we had to leave the hotel to get supplies. I was left with no words.
