The bed was amazingly comfortable, breakfast came in a big portion, and the staff were helpful. We got to the hotel at night and found no water in the room. They should have left at least two bottles. Apart from that, it was a nice stay.

I stayed here on 21-22 November 2025, after booking through Agoda. The heater wasn’t working, and staff confirmed it needed bleeding. I spent the night with no heating. That was uncomfortable, but the bigger issue was that nobody responded when I needed help. I called the emergency number eight times between 21:49 and 22:05, and nobody answered. I’ll attach screenshots of my call log. Being left in a cold room overnight with no way to reach staff is a serious safety concern. If there had been a medical or other emergency, there would have been no help. I also paid an extra £20 on arrival for a private bathroom upgrade, which was pointless in those conditions. Staff apologised the next morning and offered breakfast, but that doesn’t make up for the safety failure. I later complained to the hotel and got no response, even after more than a month. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Basic comfort and emergency support should be there. The hotel says here that no contact was made, but I have three emails from Agoda saying they were trying to reach them. I also contacted the hotel myself. Only now, after the review went public, have I received some kind of message that says nothing. The customer service hasn’t been good either. Check your email and answer the phone.

It’s an old hotel, which gives it character, and I’ve stayed twice in a twin ensuite room in the main building. Both times it’s been clean, comfortable, and good value. The location is excellent for the station, city, and a peaceful walk by the canal. If you need parking, it’s arranged a short distance away for £12.50 per night, which is cheap for 24-hour parking in Oxford.

The staff put a lot of effort into making us comfortable and were attentive to what we needed. My dad and I couldn’t rent a car on our departure day because it was a bank holiday, so they helped us find a bus to our next stop. The place also had a lovely cafe and garden that gave it a home-like feel. We had a great stay. The room was clean, and the beds were unbelievably comfortable. The train station was very close, just a two-minute walk with our heavy suitcases. I’d highly recommend staying here. Thank you!

I booked three nights for myself and my two teenage twin girls, but we left after two. We stayed in an annexe, basically a run-down house around the corner, not the hotel I thought I’d booked. I didn’t find out about any of this until arrival. The listing was misleading: the hotel is just where you have breakfast, not where you stay, and Westgate looks more like a cafe than a hotel. Parking is at another hotel down the road. There were only two beds, so one of my daughters had to sleep with me. The bathroom and toilet were shared with everyone staying in that building. The showers felt dangerous, like an ice-skating rink, and the bathrooms had no ventilation. I had to balance the kettle on the corner of a chest of drawers to plug it in. Breakfast was continental only, and if I’d known, I’d have made other arrangements. One of my children has coeliac disease and a dairy intolerance, so I paid for breakfast for nothing. It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had. A caravan would have been better. I’m not happy at all.
