The Jacaranda Hotel

Jo was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. We had clean, comfortable rooms and the best breakfast. The town, seafront, harbour, and shops are all close by. It felt like a perfect home away from home.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve booked again for next year, and I’d absolutely recommend it. The beach and shops are just a short walk away. Jo was an amazing host who couldn’t do enough for her guests, many of whom were returning visitors. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed, and tea and coffee were provided. The location was great and it was reasonably quiet. But the front looked tacky and unkempt, with cigarette butts outside. I had very little contact with the hosts: only when I arrived to hand over my keys and find out where my room was, then later when a man smoking in the porch blocked the exit and apologised. Although the website, Booking.com, and sign out front advertised breakfast, nobody offered it. I’d emailed weeks ahead to ask about breakfast and never got a reply. My shower was filthy, with black mould on the head, under the soap holder, behind the metal, and in the bottom corners. The duvet cover was stained, there were no toiletries, and I didn’t get a clean cup for the second day. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

Jo makes an excellent breakfast, and the seafront is an easy five-minute walk away. It’s a lovely little place, and my room was clean and an adequate size. I’ll be back.
