The Shoe Inn

The mixed grill came out sizzling on a cast iron platter, and the meats had a good chargrilled, smoky flavour. I liked the range of textures, from tender chicken to juicy lamb, along with the spiced pieces, grilled peppers and onions. The warm, soft naan was great for scooping up the juices and sauces, while the chunky golden chips were generous and not greasy. A fresh salad with lemon helped balance the rich grill. Hawkstone Lager and Hawkstone IPA were on tap, and both went well with the meal. The owner really stood out for friendly, welcoming service and obvious pride in the pub. We felt looked after without any fuss. The Shoe Inn in Plaitford has that comfortable pub feel, with hearty food to match. Canada Common is just across the way, with gentle paths through heathland and meadow for a walk. For a relaxing afternoon with a proper pint and a scenic stroll, or an evening out with the gang for something different, it's a great choice.
