The owners immediately said yes when we asked if we could have a takeaway in our room on the second night. They even offered crockery and cutlery, which was lovely. We felt very well looked after and had a perfect, relaxing break. We'll most definitely be back. We stayed at The Grosvenor for a fabulous couple of nights. From arrival to departure, the staff were amazing. We checked in early and got room 33, a spotless, generous-sized bay-fronted room at the front, with lovely high ceilings. The bathroom was spacious, recently renovated, and gorgeous. The soft white towels, comfortable bed, spotless white bedding, and perfect pillows all added to it. Thank you! Nick
The location was ideal, with the lighthouse and The Hoe at the top of the road. The Barbican was only a 10 minute walk away, and we spent our time enjoying countless bars and great places to eat. We were also offered a parking space at the rear of the hotel, which was invaluable. The staff we met were pleasant and helpful, and we'd undoubtedly stay again. Thank you all, and a very merry Christmas. We had a phenomenal stay at The Grosvenor Hotel. We travel quite a bit through the year, often for a couple of nights at a time, and really appreciate a hotel that feels fresh and spacious. Room 33 was spotless, comfortable, and very pleasant. Though we stayed only two nights, we slept well both nights. The bed was comfortable, the shower powerful, and there seemed to be endless hot water. A big thank you to the friendly staff for making us feel so welcome.
We came off the Brittany ferry after it docked at eight and had told the hotel we expected to check in sometime between 8 and 9. They messaged twice asking when we'd arrive, but we couldn't reply because there was no mobile signal on the boat. We rushed to get there around 9 pm. There was no parking available. They offered a council concessionary leaflet for £10, which we accepted, but they didn't have any leaflets. Our only option was street parking, so we struggled for over an hour with a terrible website to download an app, register, and pay £16.50. It wasn't the best £16.50 I've spent. There were no evening meals at the hotel, so we had to go out on foot. Moving the car risked losing the space and our £16.50. Plymouth nightlife isn't recommended when you're 66, believe me. Back at the hotel, I was ready for a much-needed bath, but it took over an hour to fill because the water only dribbled in. There was no reception to report it to. After eating and bathing, we settled into a tropical hot-house of a room. The windows wouldn't open and we couldn't turn the radiators down. It wasn't our best night. At 07.30 am we put the news on the TV. The occupant of Room 7 banged on the wall and shouted something we couldn't make out. This went on until 8 am, when a woman knocked on our door. She was in an awful state. I don't know why, or whether she was worse for wear from drugs or alcohol, but she looked and sounded exceptionally rough. She forcefully told us to turn the TV down because she needed her extra 2 hours. If she hadn't been banging on the wall and shouting like a lunatic for 30 minutes, I might have accommodated her. I felt the TV wasn't loud and told her to complain to reception. Ten minutes later a receptionist knocked. I was still in my underwear. She asked me to turn down the TV and said it wasn't my fault the walls were very thin. I agreed it wasn't my fault. I invited her in to see the TV was set at volume 29, reasonable for listening to the news, but she declined. I turned it off, showered, dressed, and had breakfast. The meal was very nice and served professionally, about the only good thing about the place. At checkout, I offered to discuss my issues with reception, but she advised me to write a review online. So here it is. The bathroom floor was sticky and dusty enough that the bath mat stuck to it. The toilet roll holder was loose on the wall because a wall plug had been used to fix it to the plasterboard. In the manner of the TV programme 4 in a Bed, would I stay again? NO!
We were only there for one night, and the rooms looked very old, though they were clean. The receptionist was so helpful and nice to our family. When we asked to upgrade, she made all the arrangements and gave us useful information about the city.
The location is amazing, so close to the Hoe and waterfront. Breakfast was beautifully cooked, with the best fried eggs! The staff were wonderful. Highly recommend 👌 👍🏻
