The Elms Hotel

The bar, restaurant and location were great, and the bed was clean and comfortable. The room in the stables, though, felt tired and budget quality for the price. There weren’t enough towels or coat hangers, the sink didn’t drain, and although I reported it, it wasn’t fixed. I also asked for another towel, but that request was forgotten.

The festive decorations looked really good, and the staff were very friendly. I had soup followed by turkey for my Christmas meal, and both were lovely. The meat was good quality too. I’d recommend this place.

We found the room comfortable enough, especially the king size bed, and being able to park close by was useful. It was clean, though a bit dated, and the furniture wasn’t too tatty. With rooms opening right outside, it reminded me of an American motel. We could hear the people upstairs walking around because the floors creaked badly. The plumbing was noisy as well, and the sink drained slowly, though the cold water was nice and cold. The room was pretty warm, so I’m glad we weren’t there in summer. We brought our own pillows, which was lucky since they only provided one, and there was just one set of towels too, which seemed odd. I can see why the rooms are cheap, and the stay was generally okay.

I tried the new Indian menu last night and had the beef curry with lemon rice. Absolutely fantastic. I heard plenty of positive comments about what others had chosen, too.
