Roy Bridge Hotel

Roadworks outside the hotel meant traffic was only allowed through on the hour from 7pm. After our journey from Elgin to Oban, my 3-year-old woke from a nap desperate for the toilet, and we still had 45 minutes to wait before traffic would move. In my experience, signs saying toilets are for customers often don't stop businesses from letting young children use them, but that wasn't the case here. I took my toddler to the toilet, then went to the bar to buy something. The staff member was rude to me and to the customer ahead of me, who appeared to be Sam Hollis based on what he bought. I recognized him because I was directly behind him. The service was moody enough that it seemed this wasn't an isolated experience. It felt like they were taking advantage of the road situation, and compared with other businesses that let young children use the toilet, this was a really poor experience.

We ended up staying an extra night, and the staff kindly brought our takeaway from the bar up to the room. The food was really good. We checked in fairly late on the first night, and they were helpful in talking us through how to get into the room. A pleasant stay all round, and thanks for catering to us, our crying baby and our four dogs.

The mountain views were amazing, and the room was lovely, very clean and comfortable, with a distinctly Scottish feel. It had real Highland character and style. The staff were very friendly, and the location at the foot of Ben Nevis, away from Fort William, was quiet and just right. I'd highly recommend it.

We stopped in for a couple of drinks with my partner. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and pub area, despite it being Easter weekend. The food was extremely overpriced and clearly home-cooked from frozen. The pizza looked like a supermarket frozen one, probably Goodfellas. The chips were quite nice, to be fair, but the fish was tasteless. The meal was £33, and with two pints the total came to £48. A complete rip-off. Don't come here.
