My single room had windows on two sides and a sea view. It was clean and serviced daily. The food was hot, tasty and on time, with a wide choice at breakfast. The evening meal was good too, with three options each for starters, mains and desserts, so there was something for everyone. Portions were generous enough that I struggled to finish mine every day. The staff were lovely and did whatever they could to help, nothing was too much trouble. They even waved us off from the door when our coach left. I enjoyed my stay after my Shearings holiday and would like to return. They also opened early on the day we were heading back.

The staff were friendly and did what they could, but the building felt tired, dated and dirty. I know older places are hard to maintain, but cleaning and touching up the paint would help. The food didn't seem homemade: frozen roast potatoes, ready-made mash and tinned beef stew. The chocolate fudge cake was so dry it crunched like a cookie. Breakfast was self-service and okay, but the toast machine was awful. You had to run the bread through about eight times before it got any colour. A couple of four-slice toasters would have been better. I wouldn't stay again.

The hot breakfast was lovely, served self-service, and the staff were attentive and helpful throughout a very pleasant stay. Parking was limited, though we were lucky to get a space. My only small issue was hearing music upstairs on the second floor, presumably coming from the concert room.

I brought my dog for a three-day break and found the room spotless, warm and clean, with a sea view, all at a very reasonable price. I didn't hear noise from other guests, and actually didn't see anyone else during the stay. The stairs and corridors are worn, but this isn't an expensive hotel and it's dog-friendly. I've stayed before and will definitely use it again.

We had a lovely time and enjoyed the sea view. The toilet in our room wouldn't flush, but once we told reception, they moved us straight away and offered us a drink in the bar for the inconvenience. A few homeless people were staying there with help from Scarborough Council because of the very bad weather, but they didn't bother us. We'd definitely come back.
