The Fig Tree Shanklin

The buffet lunch had a generous selection of hot and cold savoury dishes, fruit skewers, scones with clotted cream, and sweet biscuits. I was there for an invitation lunch and got to look around some of the rooms as well. This recently refurbished boutique Shanklin Hotel has spacious rooms, light decor and first-class facilities. The atmosphere was friendly, and the management and staff were welcoming and efficient. I’ll definitely recommend it to visitors to the Island.

I travel over for work every month and stay here each time. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and helpful, and the Fig Tree is my favourite of the similar places I’ve tried nearby. It’s only a few minutes from town and across the road from the lift to the seafront, with the bonus of a good-sized car park. The rooms are decent, fairly modern and well equipped, with comfortable beds and a great bathroom and shower. I’ve tried both standard and deluxe rooms, and the deluxe was bigger. I haven’t stayed in a front room with a balcony, but they look amazing. There’s a lovely terrace out front for summer, and they often have music or an open mic night.

We brought our dog for a two-night stay and were very impressed. The bright room was a decent size, with a large wet-room bathroom, and the hotel decor is clean and modern. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was nice enough, and the price was very reasonable. We’ll book again next year.

The bar is beautiful, the staff are fantastic and attentive, and breakfast was superb with loads of choice, including gluten-free options. The hotel looks like it belongs in Greece. Can’t wait to come back!
