The reception team were especially helpful and friendly. We'd booked one room for ourselves for one night, and our nephew had booked another room for the following night. Then we realised the check-in and check-out times didn't work for our need to use the hotel as a base during the day. We explained it to reception, and within minutes they'd found a solution that made everything easy. We stayed at Days Inn Sheffield at M1 Woodall Services. The place looks a bit dated and tired inside and could use some paint and TLC. Still, it was clean and comfortable enough apart from a few cobwebs high up and a bit of black on the bathroom sealant. The room was warm and had heating, a fan and a kettle. Reception had an iron available. Although the hotel is at a motorway service station, the room was quiet enough for a good night's sleep. The main service area was a two-minute walk away, with everything we needed, including dinner and breakfast. The stay did what we needed, and we'd happily return.

The place badly needs renovation. I wasn't expecting much, but blimey, it's ropey. They list their rooms on all the booking sites, then charge an extra £5 for parking if you book through one of them. If they want people to book direct, they could remove the listings, but of course they'd lose the exposure. It's not about the money, it's the shady way of doing business. Poor. I don't expect a response.

The rooms are badly worn, and the bathroom is unappealing, with black mould around the bath and tiling. They also try to charge £5 for parking. I never agreed to that charge and don't believe they can enforce it, so I refused to pay. The rooms are already poor for what they cost, and I'm not paying extra for an unpleasant visit.

I stayed at Days Inn Sheffield South on 6th November in Room 15, hoping for a comfortable night before a long day of travel. Instead the room was very cold, and reception told me they couldn't adjust the heating. Motorway noise was loud enough to make sleeping difficult. I asked to move to a quieter room on the other side of the building. The receptionist said the hotel was full, although I could still see rooms available to book online. When I asked to cancel and get a refund so I could stay elsewhere, I was told there was no manager available to authorise it. I emailed the hotel afterwards to explain what had happened and got no response. The stay was uncomfortable and poorly handled, and the lack of follow-up from management made an already disappointing experience worse.

The worst part was the room itself. The carpet was stained, the skirting boards were black with mould and fungus, and there were cobwebs everywhere. It felt poorly cleaned, and walking on that mouldy, stained, unsanitary carpet was disgusting and repulsive. With any commercial conscience, you couldn't sell a room in that state. I wouldn't recommend the ground-floor rooms. They overlook a car park, the windows have no grilles, and the curtains are very thin. You can hear cars and all the noise outside. Drunk customers shouted, insulted people and moved things around in the room above for hours. The night porter came up twice but couldn't do anything or move me to another room because the hotel was full. The building is very poorly soundproofed, so you can hear everything. If ratings went below zero, that's what this establishment would deserve.
