We’d booked for Sunday 1st March at 1.45 and arrived a few minutes early. We were shown to our table and offered food and drinks straight away; the drinks came promptly, as they usually have on our many previous visits. But more than an hour later, our meals still hadn’t arrived. When we asked about the delay, nothing was sorted immediately. A manager eventually came over after another ten minutes and gave us what we felt was an obvious pack of lies about supply issues, on a Sunday. We decided not to order anything else and paid for our drinks. There wasn’t even an offer of free drinks. As we left, we ran into friends who had arrived at 2.15. They’d been served straight away and were leaving at about 3.00, at the same time as us. After such a poor experience, we won’t be back. If management had been honest about the wait, we’d have been more understanding.

The Christmas quiz went on for over two hours, and we lost interest. It would’ve been more fun with a livelier pace. Even so, we had a great night. The pub was lovely, the food was great, and the beef starter on the Christmas menu was out of this world. Their liqueur coffee was proper, with real cream, not that squirmy stuff. Staff were really on the ball and attentive despite how busy it was.

Eva looked after us with friendly, attentive service, and the whole team deserves thanks. We were really impressed by the delicious meal, especially the beef short ribs and lamb two ways. We enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it to anyone.

Fran has really turned the Cross around, putting on events and making an effort. She’s friendly, helpful and attentive, and makes the place what it is. There’ve been so many changes of hands over the years, and it hasn’t been this good since Ben and Scott. The service and atmosphere are always lovely now. Well done, Fran!

We dropped in with friends for a late lunch. The food was very good and fairly priced, and the staff were polite and helpful. Lovely atmosphere too. We’ll definitely return.
