Hotel du Vin St Andrews

The dogs had the best time, and the staff made all of us feel welcome. The hotel was so accommodating with our two dogs over Christmas. Breakfast was brilliant, and the location is superb for getting to the beach or into town. Parking at the hotel was easy, though I think it would be harder in peak season. If you want a proper window, ask for a lower floor. The second-floor rooms are attic rooms with Velux windows and rooftop views. An amazing stay with lovely, friendly staff. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it.

The lift was out, and there were 20 fairly steep steps to the first floor. We’d been warned in advance, which was excellent. From the road there are about four steps to the pavement and more up to the entrance, so anyone with hip or knee problems may find access difficult. Perhaps the back of the hotel is easier to reach? We were celebrating two birthdays, and the staff kindly gave us little upgrades. The rooms were a good size, the beds comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. There’s also great free parking on the road in front.

The staff were kind enough to carry our two huge bags up three levels, which was so thoughtful. Even so, the stairs at the front made hauling suitcases up and down frustrating, and the lift was out throughout our stay. The hotel group should give the staff better training. We had to ask for the wifi, restaurant information and other basics. The room heating kept going on and off, and we had to ask twice for someone to look at it. There was no moisturiser in the room, which was annoying in winter. I also found the pre-arrival email asking whether we wanted to upgrade distasteful. It’s a gorgeous hotel right by the ocean in a brilliant location. With more attention to detail, it could be the best hotel in St Andrew’s.

We had one lovely night at Hotel du Vin in St. Andrews and would love to return. We upgraded to a junior suite with a sea view, and the room was beautiful, spotless and had a gorgeous outlook. The location is perfect, just down the street from the Old Course. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and had plenty of choice.
