Moat House Hotel (Acton Trussell)

We got married here yesterday, and our guests and we all rated the location, rooms and food highly. The whole experience, from planning through to the day itself, was second to none. Nothing was ever a problem, and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive or helpful in making sure our wedding day was the best it could be. Huge thanks to Lexie and Emily for going above and beyond, and to the rest of the staff and chefs for making the day as perfect as possible.

The place is truly beautiful, and I loved staying at the Moat House. I had one of the best sleeps of my life, the bed was so comfortable and the sheets were crisp. The staff were pleasant, and breakfast was really good.

The food was incredible. Our guests were blown away by the canapés, wedding breakfast and evening pizzas, not to mention the full English breakfast. Lexie and the team made sure the day went as smoothly as possible. They were great at communicating in the lead-up to the wedding, replying promptly to emails and accommodating all our requests. Our day was perfect. We’d 100% recommend the moat house as a wedding venue!

The steaks we ordered, one medium rare and one medium, both arrived well done. They were among the worst we’ve had in a long time, and the evening was a disaster. The wine service was just as bad. I ordered what was supposed to be the best bottle on the list, but the waiter brought it already open and slammed it onto the table, then asked whether we needed wine glasses. After fetching glasses, he asked if we wanted to pour it ourselves. There was no offer to taste it, and he seemed completely uninformed. I’ve never experienced anything like it anywhere. Maybe some training is needed before working in the restaurant. It’s disappointing that management seems to lack proper service training, especially for somewhere claiming an AA rosette rating. We’re hotel guests, but we’ve cancelled tomorrow evening’s dinner reservation and will eat elsewhere. Let’s hope breakfast is better 😉.
