The Lion Hotel

Having dinner and then heading straight up to your room makes this a handy choice for an overnight stay, and it’s good value for the money. The rooms are okay, but the layouts are oddly planned. I’ve stayed a few times, and that’s been true of every room. There’s space for side tables, but none, and the plug sockets are always covered. The old TVs and layout don’t make for a relaxing room. Breakfast was good, apart from the raw toast. A few simple changes would make a big difference.

The building is beautiful and full of charm, which makes the tight stairs understandable for a place that’s a few hundred years old. I’d highly recommend staying here, and wouldn’t worry too much about reviews mentioning the stairs. The hotel’s location and my stay were fantastic, though the room cleaning could be better. There was dust in the carpet around the bed, and the stains could be dealt with. My last night was double booked, unfortunately. Rachel, the general manager, and Dave were fantastic while sorting it out. They found me somewhere else to stay and looked after me for the rest of my time at the hotel. Thank you.

Our friends arranged our stay at The Lion Hotel, and what a beautiful, cozy place it turned out to be. The staff were extremely friendly, the room was nice and clean, and the bar and restaurant have superb decor. Breakfast was amazing. We loved it. Highly recommended, and thank you!

We were stopping overnight on the way from Devon to Scotland, and the dog was welcome and enjoyed her stay too. The room was clean and in good order, and the shower was clean with hot water. Breakfast was superb, with cereals, pastries and a full breakfast made from quality ingredients. Really enjoyable.
