The Littleton Arms

The Sunday roast was the highlight this time. My Staffordshire Roast Sirloin of Beef was tender, cooked just right, and one of the best roasts I can remember. On an earlier visit I tried the Monkfish and Prawn Panang Curry, which was full of flavour too. The place still has a stylish, cosy feel, and the staff are welcoming and attentive. There’s a good choice of beers, and my Guinness was poured perfectly. We’ve been back to The Littleton Arms and will be coming again.

The food was good, which makes the poor service all the more disappointing. We had to wait a while before anyone took our order, and only three of our four drinks arrived. We ended up going to the bar for the rest because table service was practically absent. At the bar, staff were chatting or staring into space instead of serving people, and we had to ask for a drink. We’ve run into this same issue with the bar staff on several visits. After this evening out with friends, we’ll think twice before booking here again.

The food was just as good on my second visit. I had the chicken tikka kebab with a great sauce, yogurt and rice. When I called to adjust the booking, Gemma and Megan were friendly and helpful, and sent a text confirming the changes straight away. For lunch with a friend on my first visit, I enjoyed beef ragu with perfectly cooked pasta, while my friend had a beef burger. The menu mixes pub favourites with less usual choices like venison and monkfish curry. The place has been redecorated to a high standard since Davenports took over, though it still feels relaxed. The beers were great too. I’ve already booked another visit.

There are several sections to sit in, so the cosy pub stays quiet-feeling even when it’s busy. The menu has plenty of choices and feels different from the usual chains. Everything we ordered, from starters to desserts, was tasty and cooked perfectly. The service was excellent too.
