We stayed for one night in December 2025, and the room had no heating. We were absolutely freezing. In the morning, the shower didn’t work, and there was no hot water at the sink for even a quick wash. We had to check out, so we packed our suitcase and went to breakfast. When I told the girl at the desk what had happened, she said, “oh that often happens in your room do you want us to try and fix it”. I said there was no point since our luggage was packed and we needed to leave. If the shower regularly breaks in a hotel room, they shouldn’t let people stay in it. We’d enjoyed most of the stay, but the room problems were disappointing after looking forward to the trip. I wasn’t expecting a full refund, but a small compensation or even a genuine apology would have been appreciated. December made the stay expensive. The girl at the front desk said a manager would call and gave me the name of a woman who apparently didn’t exist. After no call came, I rang and staff said they had no woman working there by that name. I asked again for the manager or owner to call and heard nothing. On my final call, the owner was extremely rude and basically suggested I was lying about the heating because nobody else in the building had complained. Why would I say it wasn’t working if it was? He also said we’d refused to let them fix the shower. It happened in the morning when we were due to leave, so there wasn’t much point. He was hostile and didn’t offer a single apology. We were kind enough to strip the bed before leaving. Underneath, there was only a sheet on the mattress, no mattress protector, and long hair all over it that couldn’t have been mine or my partner’s. Extremely unhygienic. I’m glad we only stayed one night. I would not recommend this hotel.

I haven’t stayed here, as I have my motorhome parked at a site, but I visit Portpatrick very often. The food is delicious and cooked to order, with lots of gluten free options. The service is superb, and the staff are friendly, helpful and always smiling. I celebrated my birthday here too. I usually eat outside with my two Poodles, though dogs can go into the bar and I’ve taken mine in. They even bring my glass of wine to the table because I have a lead in each hand. I can’t wait to return when the Caravan/Motorhome site reopens in 2026.

We stayed at the Waterfront Hotel for a wonderful weekend, and the beachfront location was hard to beat. There’s plenty of free parking nearby, and Portpatrick is a charming Scottish seaside village well worth exploring. Our clean room had a firm, comfortable bed and a great view over the beachfront. For a budget hotel, the quality was better than we expected. We also really liked the restaurant: a big menu with some dishes featuring haggis, excellent food, generous portions and prompt service. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, and quick to answer questions. The only small drawback was the worn carpet on the shared staircase, though it was clean. It didn’t take away from a very good stay. We’d happily return to the Waterfront Hotel on our next visit to Portpatrick, and would recommend it for comfortable, well-priced accommodation in a beautiful setting.

The welcome from the staff was lovely during our overnight stay at the Waterfront. Our room was clean, though a little small. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the fully gluten free cooked breakfast. You can tell it’s freshly made, and it was very good value.

Seven of us turned up for lunch on a quiet weekday without a booking, and we were warmly welcomed anyway. We all had a freshly prepared, absolutely delicious three-course meal. The food and staff were faultless.
