The hotel itself is beautiful, with very spacious, well furnished rooms. We arrived late and left early for a ferry, but reception was still super friendly despite the hour, and we’d happily come back for longer. The food sounded great, though we couldn’t try it, and the amenities were fab. The only small gripes were the flooring could do with replacing and you could faintly hear other people, though not enough to keep you awake. That doesn’t take away from the lovely place and staff. We hope to visit again in daylight.

Another New Year in the NWC, and it never disappoints. Ian sorted out a double room for us instead of the twin we needed on the first day, and the full three nights were amazing. Great entertainment, fabulous food and lovely company. You just cannae beat it. Thanks to everyone at NWC, especially Ann in the dining room, Helen and Ian. See you all next year. ❤️

What a find. The hotel is tastefully done and has lovely private function rooms. I had a light lunch that was lovely and well priced. There’s an indoor curling rink with a full sized viewing window in the bar. I’m told there’s also a swimming pool and games room. I can highly recommend this venue.

The first night cost 85.5, and I was impressed with the great room, which had been newly renovated. The windows did let in a draught, though. When I asked to extend, I was told that room was booked by another guest, which was fine. But the next room cost 96 quid, and I was shocked. I’ve stayed in better hostels. The bed was so bad I could feel every spring in my back, the lights above it didn’t work, and the room was old, outdated and frankly disgusting. I asked how I’d ended up in a room ten times worse, and staff just said sorry, there was nothing they could do. They said prices change depending on how many guests are staying. I understand it wasn’t the receptionist’s fault, but they didn’t seem bothered about helping. I needed a good night’s rest and didn’t get one. I did enjoy the curling rink, and the leisure suite was nice, though it could do with freshening up. The second night ruined the stay for me. The breakfast was so greasy that I tried to soak it up with a napkin. I didn’t try lunch or dinner because breakfast had put me off eating at the hotel. If all the rooms were refurbished, it could be a wonderful hotel with lots of potential.

We’d driven from Cambridge in England to catch the ferry from Stranraer in Scotland and had arrived early, desperate for a hot drink and a loo. Luckily, we found the hotel in town. A courteous, friendly young man said we were welcome to have coffee and use the facilities, and a young lady happily made us a pot at an exceptionally reasonable price. The whole stop was a joy. We make the trip now and then and have agreed we’ll definitely stay overnight at the hotel next time.
