The roast alone is worth coming back for, generous and full of flavour, cooked just right. The Black Lion in Long Melford also has a really warm, characterful feel, with a proper sense of community. What makes it stand out most, though, is the crew. They’re attentive and professional without making things feel stiff, and the service is quick without rushing you. Everyone made us feel welcome, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. A great pub whether you live nearby or are visiting Long Melford.

Getting here from Lavenham meant crossing fields and taking a wrong turn or two, so we were relieved when we arrived. It was just what we needed: tasty food, a good wine list and a pleasant atmosphere. Result. Thanks!

The food was lovely, and the service was excellent. We started dinner at 5:45 on Valentine's night, and the place filled up as the evening went on. The restaurant is a large room with long drapes, canvases for sale on the walls and a really nice feel. You could see rugby through the hatch by the bar, but it didn't feel like a sports bar. I'd happily have the Scotch egg, haddock kedgery, creamed leeks, honey & feta carrots, fishcake in watercress and chicken matenese again. 👌👍

What keeps bringing us back to the Black Lion is how at home the staff make us feel. We’re regulars, and the friendly, attentive welcome is always there, whoever is on duty. Yesterday we had a lovely chat with Maddie, Carla and Karina, and today we’ll probably see Cyril, Marcus and others. They always have time for us and a warm smile. The hotel overlooks our favourite village, Long Melford, and there are plenty of good places around, but the welcome and service here never disappoint. Thanks to everyone for looking after us so well. We’ll be back many times, with our boxer dog Monty too. Lisa and Tim Brewer

We usually enjoy eating at the Black Lion, and this visit was no different. The set menus have some good choices and are great value, though we went with dishes from the main menu this time. Both meals were lovely and really filling, but we still found room for dessert. The staff were friendly too. We'll be back.
