The Blue Boar

We haven't stayed overnight, so I can't speak to the rooms, though I'd expect them to be spotless too. The restaurant and toilets were beautifully kept, and the staff make you feel welcome straight away, even when they're busy. They look over and smile, and are attentive throughout. We've visited five times as a family, from quick midweek meals to a special celebration with four generations. The varied menu has something for everyone, and every dish we've tried has been fresh, beautifully presented and made with quality ingredients. The food, atmosphere and service have been consistently spot on, even when the place is full. The blue boar has become our family favourite. I'm happy to give it full stars based on our visits so far, and I'm looking forward to trying Sunday lunch.

Dinner gets very busy, so book a table ahead. The lower level is just as pleasant as the main restaurant, but there are two small steps up to the main area, so ask for a lower-level table if that matters. We had the ground-floor disabled room beside the entrance and car park. Access was very easy, even for someone using a wheelchair, and the spacious wet room had plenty of room for one too. The car park is also easy to use on a motorbike, with a tarmac surface, only a slight slope and no obstacles. The staff were friendly, hardworking and helpful with requests. There was a good mix of ages, and they all seemed to enjoy their work. The food was lovely and reasonably priced.

We stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious and clean, with a lovely ensuite and a really comfortable bed. Both meals were excellent, served hot with great service. The pork was so tender it melted in your mouth, and the beef shin pie was delicious and generous. Breakfast was just as good, with top-quality products. The team are friendly and welcoming. The Inn itself has a lovely old-world feel, with roaring fires, old beams, deep stone walls and cosy corners to settle into. Highly recommend this beautiful place.

The Indian menu was a great choice. We both loved our meals, and my lamb and mushroom curry was one of the nicest Indian dishes I've tried. It's a shame we're about 100 miles away, because we'd happily return if we were back in the area. My wife and I came for an early Saturday evening meal while staying nearby for a couple of nights, a Christmas gift. The restaurant was decorated so nicely, and all the staff were friendly, especially the young woman who served us. Sorry, I didn't catch her name.
