Bettyhill Hotel

Carl, the owner, made us feel very welcome, and we had great dinner and breakfast overlooking the ocean. We were cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, and this was possibly our favourite stop. It’s a lovely hotel in a beautiful location, and secure bike storage was no problem.

We’d been camping on our NC500 trip, but booked here at the last minute because of the weather. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable, a real bit of luxury after roughing it. Dogs are very welcome, with a separate, peaceful dining area for guests with dogs. That suited us, especially with our big soft staffy who nobody wants to sit near! The guy on reception was brilliant. He was also tending the bar and serving food later, and even made us a flask of tea for the long drive the next day.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were very good at reception and in the restaurant. The food was good too. Still, the previous guests’ used towels had been left behind, and we couldn’t get the TV working properly. We also found the room rate quite expensive compared with other places.

The staff were the most amazing we’ve ever met, and made the whole experience lovely. The hotel and rooms were very good, the food tasty, and the surrounding nature beautiful. We’d suggest spending time here instead of just passing through on the NC500. It’s a good base for day trips, then somewhere to relax in the evening after a busy day.
