The staff made a real impression, especially Alfie, who was brilliant with customers and a real asset to the bar. I travel a lot for work, and this was a lovely place to stop over in Cornwall. Set among trees, it was peaceful and had nice views. The rooms and hotel were well designed and furnished with good quality things, and both the food and rooms were good. The spa and gym were well equipped too.

The restaurant had lovely food and a relaxed feel, and everyone on staff was welcoming. Alfie seemed to be everywhere and was always friendly and helpful. We stayed in February after hearing about the place, and were glad we tried it. Our room was spotless and well kept, with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, plus a huge, comfortable bed and nice pillows. The spa was clean and pleasant. The gym is on the small side, but the equipment was good quality and well looked after. We found the sauna and steam room relaxing, and the pool was a good size, though I can imagine it getting crowded when the hotel is busy. We didn't try any treatments, so can't comment on those. There was quite a bit of maintenance happening during our stay. The kids park was closed, which didn't affect us, and some tape cordoned off part of the front of the building. I assume the work was planned for the low season, but it's worth mentioning. We had a really nice stay and will definitely return. Thanks to all the staff.

The whole place had a relaxed, welcoming feel, and the warm pool, sauna and steam room were all great for unwinding. I went for a spa afternoon with a couple of friends, my first visit here, and we had a brilliant time. Reception staff greeted us nicely, then helped us choose drinks for the poolside. They explained the menu, and the prices were very reasonable, with wine cheaper than at the pub. The lift buttons were brailled, so we could find the ones we needed, and the changing rooms had enough space and level floors, which made changing easy. I'd definitely come back and recommend it for a spa afternoon or a full day. Facials and massages are available too, and staff can explain the prices listed behind reception.

The massage and facial were great, and we felt well looked after. We didn't get a chance to try the spa facilities, though they looked good. Getting hold of the hotel was difficult: we called several times in the morning before arriving, and each call went to voicemail. Dinner was a real disappointment. It was overpriced, the portions were small, and the food was only mediocre. I'm fairly sure the lamb main was leftover from a few days earlier. At breakfast, it took about five minutes to find someone to take our order. The manager walked past, and when we asked to order, she seemed to think it was beneath her to help. Her cold reply and fake smile felt like a scene from Mean Girls. The stay was nice in some ways, but I don't think I'd stay here again.

My only real gripe was breakfast tea. Having to add the milk before taking it back to the table didn't work for me. I'm a tradesman, I like a proper brew and to leave the bag in for a few minutes. Maybe they could offer teapots and little milk jugs. Everything else was thoroughly enjoyable. The staff were amazing, the room was clean and nice, and the pool, sauna and steam room were all good. The jacuzzi wasn't the most comfortable, but it was okay. We ate at the hotel on the first night and went to charlestown on the second. We stayed last week and will be back.
