Premier Inn London Uxbridge

The canalside walks and nearby pubs were a lovely bonus, and you can stroll into Uxbridge town centre from this spot just outside it. There’s free parking too. I’ve stayed at a few Premier Inns around the area, and this is the best so far. Raakesh gave me a warm welcome and went out of his way to find me a quiet room since I wanted an early night. I slept really well in the comfortable bed, and the room was nicely appointed with everything I needed before getting up early for a flight. It’s perfect for an overnight stay near Heathrow, and I’ll make this my regular hotel in the area.

The breakfast was just like at other Premier Inns, perfectly fine, and I liked having a bowl of yoghurt to serve from instead of opening a single pot for one spoonful. The morning staff were pleasant too. The room itself was what you’d expect from a budget hotel, but the air conditioning only went down to 19 degrees, warmer than I like, and never actually reached that even after hours. There are no windows to open for fresh air. One day reception had locked me out of the air con for some reason, and I had to ask if I could use it. The sink tap barely dribbled, while the bath filled in a minute. The extractor fan switched on and off by itself, so I had to leave the bathroom open to clear steam. The bed was fine, with pillows reassuringly hard and uncomfortable. On a previous stay, I woke up smelling of urine because the bed had been soaked and left to dry. I was there for six nights on business, with breakfast and the meal deal booked each day. Dinner was a different story. The bar had three near-identical lagers with no flavour, no cider, and the Guinness had run out. There was no real ale in the fridge, first because “one guy had drank it all” and then, according to the floor staff, because “theres a national shortage”. The fridges didn’t have much else either. The food was awful, the room felt like a library, and the service was blasé and sarcastic. The menu was basic pub food, much like what I served at Wetherspoons 25 years ago. Our “loaded nachos” were a tiny plate with fewer than a handful of crisps and a few drips of sauce. My chicken burger looked like a toddler had put it together. My colleague asked for his mixed-grill steak rare, but it came well done with no pink. When the kitchen worker was asked about it, he looked at the steak and insisted it was rare. There were even clock faces on the wall showing how to cook steak rare, medium and well done. When we left, they said we owed extra for the Moretti, which was fair enough, but charged us for two pints when we’d had one and argued about it. We paid, then didn’t return for the rest of the week. Don’t waste your money on dinner here. The dining room was drab and dingy, with no music, a cold atmosphere, cold service and cold food. The staff were bad, and seemed to think the customer was always wrong. The place had even closed off half the restaurant. There’s a fantastic pub opposite with tasty, generous homemade food at good prices, a lovely atmosphere, entertainment or offers each night, a canal-side beer garden and a great drink selection. It’s everything this Premier Inn isn’t.

The beds were comfortable, it was quiet, and the breakfast was great value. The staff were wonderful, and the whole stay was excellent value for money. The rooms have poor ventilation, though. There was condensation pooled on the windowsill and mould, which made the room feel unhealthy. Otherwise, it would have been an easy five stars.

We were there for one night for a local event. We usually choose Premier Inns because we know what to expect. This room was a bit tired but clean and very quiet, with free parking and not far from the town centre. Many of the guests seemed to be regulars whom the staff knew. Nazrullah checked us in and also covered the restaurant and bar because a staff member had called in sick. He was friendly, efficient and helpful, and George in the restaurant was good too. With the weather awful that night, we ate dinner there, and it was better than I expected. Breakfast was great as well. We’d stay again and were happy with the experience.
