We’ll definitely stay here again. The owner looked after us well at breakfast, and the beds were comfortable. Our spacious double room on the top floor was clean and quiet, with lovely sea views. The place is quirky and old, but the room was warm and comfortable, with a spa shower and a TV set into the bathroom. We stayed overnight while visiting family in the area.

We have a reactive dog, and this was a calmer, more welcoming place to stay than we could have hoped for. The staff were all super friendly. Emily booked us an amazing room, and Dave was such a great guy. It’s hard to find a hotel with an atmosphere like this. We had a beautiful stay and will definitely come back!

Steph and Joanne, thank you for such a lovely stay. We were there with family visiting from Ireland, and the staff were so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was lovely, and the beautiful rooms had a fabulous shower and a four-poster bed. We’d most definitely recommend this hotel.

You can walk to the beach in under ten minutes, just across the road, and the train station is also less than a ten-minute walk away. The whole place is dog friendly. Inside, the period rooms are stunning, with an interior that feels like a mix of Bridgerton and Downton Abbey. Our room was comfortable, very clean, and had everything we needed. The building’s features are amazing, and I love the blend of modern and historic. The food is rustic and homely, with incredible portion sizes. All the staff were welcoming, polite, and helpful.

The staff were friendly, and the building has plenty of history and charm, with beautiful grounds and some characterful spaces. Still, my stay at Moresby Hall had enough rough edges that it fell short of the glowing reviews that influenced my booking. I was visiting a family member in hospital during a difficult time, and the warm, professional check-in was appreciated. We were asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant, but with last orders at 8pm, we decided not to. Finding the place was confusing: the small front entrance had unclear signage, and there wasn’t much guidance around the back for parking and access. The three EV chargers, including a Tesla charger, were useful, though £20 overnight felt steep. Choosing a room was also a challenge. The hotel website had few room details and no clear photos of every room, so I turned to third-party sites for a better idea, especially because I wanted to avoid the top floor. Inside, the restaurant and bar were tasteful and welcoming, but the reception and corridors felt dated, perhaps because of mismatched furniture and muted colors. My room had good-quality curtains, a throw, and cushions, and I was told it had recently been refurbished. But the carpet looked worn or unclean, and the decor didn’t feel cohesive. The mattress was in poor condition and badly needed replacing. Staff said it was already on the list to be dealt with, but it affected my sleep considerably. Because the building is Grade I listed, the room was heated with a portable unit. Even in April it felt chilly, and I’m not sure that heating would be enough in colder months. The multi-jet shower looked impressive at first, but seemed excessive and dated. I think a simpler, more modern one would work better. Breakfast was a mixed bag: the sausage and toast were excellent, other parts were average, and the bacon was overcooked. Service was polite and attentive, though. There was no complimentary bottled water in the room either. A large reusable bottle of filtered tap water would be a thoughtful, inexpensive touch. Moresby Hall has real potential as a unique, historically significant property. Some more care with the decor, furniture, mattresses, comfort, and guest amenities could make a considerable difference.
