We only came in for a meal, so I can’t say anything about the rooms. The menu had plenty of choice, and the portions were generous. The food tasted good and didn’t feel mass produced, and the staff made us feel welcome. All at a reasonable price, too.

Breakfast was very good and the staff were up to a high standard. The old building makes it hard to get rooms to a good standard, and mine felt a bit bare. The bathroom could have been cleaner: there was a half-used bar of soap on the bath with hair from the previous occupants stuck to it. Parking on site is also very limited for bigger modern vehicles. Still, it was very good value for money.

The place has some nice history, and the bed was comfortable enough, but I wouldn’t stay again if I can avoid it. The food was average, with the vegetables boiled to death. In the room, the TV remote didn’t work, the tea tray spoon was sticky from whoever used it before, and the blinds let in a lot of light. The shower cubicle was unbelievably cramped, and the gaps around the door meant I could hear everything in the corridor when I was trying to sleep.

We love coming here at weekends for the food. There’s loads on the menu, and the prawn salads are enormous. They have a great choice of drinks as well. You can sit in the bar, either of the two dining rooms, or out on the decked area.

It’s a great family-run hotel, and they welcome pets too. Our room was clean and comfortable, just as we expected. The hotel isn’t modern, which suited us, but it had all the amenities we needed. Well worth visiting, and we’ll definitely return.
