The location in central Windermere is ideal, and the room was clean and comfortable. Frank, the owner, and Portia the dog were both welcoming and friendly, and we enjoyed our stay. Still, I’m a little surprised by all the 5-star reviews. The place feels dated and could use some care. There was no cooked breakfast, which I’d expect from a B&B, and our gluten-free needs caused some confusion. I’m not saying people shouldn’t stay, just that it’s good to know what to expect.

A lovely, quiet and cozy flat just off Windermere’s main street, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. It’s well placed for beautiful walks. Bowness is an easy 20-minute walk away, or the bus station is only five minutes away. At the moment, buses are £2 under the government scheme through December 2024.

Portia might be the cutest dog in all of Lake District! The house was lovely, the owner was great, and the location was brilliant. We had such a warm and welcoming stay, and we’ll be back.

A great B&B to use as a base. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, with shops and restaurants close by and an easy walk to the promenade. There are regular open-top buses for anyone who can’t or would rather not walk. Highly recommend.

Frank kindly drove us to Bowness for our boat trip on Lake Windermere while he was heading out to buy groceries in Kendal. That was very kind of him. The B&B is also close to Windermere train station, so I’d particularly recommend it if you’re not driving. Frank is friendly and easy to talk to, and Portia the dog gave me the warmest welcome. Our room was neat and clean, with plenty of natural light, and there’s a bathtub if you want a bath. We picked this place because it cost less than other hotels in the region while still having a high review rating and breakfast. I didn’t expect such warm service and friendliness at such a reasonable price. It’s a real hidden gem in Windermere.
