Cantley House Hotel

The countryside setting gave us lovely views of trees and woodland, though getting there without a car is tricky. An Uber from town was easy enough to arrange. I was touched to be offered complimentary champagne on arrival for my special occasion. The old-fashioned building has some more modern updates in the rooms, and our slightly larger suite had a spacious bed. I especially liked the bathroom: the mirror was touch screen, with a built-in light, and the bath was big enough for two. The water got sauna-hot, which made for a wonderfully relaxing soak after a long day. Breakfast was served in a converted barn, a cosy, very British space. There was fresh fruit, pastries, hot drinks and different egg dishes with sourdough. Everything I tried was well seasoned, and the pastries were flaky and buttery. I had a great stay.

The atmosphere was electric this year, and the entertainment kept everyone going all night. We’ve been to Cantley’s New Years Eve party five years running, and although every year has been fab, this was the best yet. The management team put together a brilliant evening, with dancers, a saxophonist and a DJ. The food was gourmet, arrived hot and came out in good time considering the number of guests. Bar and waiting staff were professional, friendly and helpful. We’ll be back again this year. Thanks, Cantley, you’re the best!

The team at reception, especially Adrian, gave us such a warm welcome and made my birthday feel extra special. Our short break was perfect. The room was beautifully furnished and quiet, and the hotel and garden were so well kept while still feeling like an authentic old country house.

We came for our wedding anniversary and had a memorable two-night stay. The room was peaceful, with birds and squirrels to watch, and it was a lovely place to unwind. Our bedroom was spacious, with a four-poster bed, a nice view and a coffee machine. The modern bathroom had plenty of room and a relaxing jacuzzi bath. The hotel decor felt welcoming, as did the reception team. We ate at the Stables restaurant twice and had breakfast both mornings. The meals were excellent, especially the steaks, and breakfast had plenty of choice, whether cooked or continental. Staff were polite and efficient. We were visiting the Nivarna spa, only nine minutes away by car, so the location worked well for us. Thanks for making it such a lovely stay. We’d definitely come again.
