The staff were friendly, and I appreciated the significant discount we received on the final bill for the food problems. Still, I won’t be coming back to eat here. The gnocchi was inedible for all three of us because it seemed to be swimming in chili. We’d pre-ordered it, and none of us has the same taste or tolerance for chili, but it was overwhelming for everyone. The menu didn’t mention chili or spice, so I assume it was a mistake. When we asked for replacements without it, the waitress explained that all the gnocchi had been made with that sauce and offered menus so we could choose something else. One person in our group was vegetarian, and there were no other vegetarian mains, so they had to get a starter instead. If you only offer one vegetarian main, it needs to be made properly and carefully, or there should be more choices. That’s on Fuller's, I suppose. At least one of the other fish options was unavailable, too. Because of the gnocchi issue, half our group ate their main courses about half an hour after the rest. Everyone also thought the food was distinctly average. I might not be so annoyed if it weren’t expensive, and if the menu didn’t make it sound like far more than average chain pub food. The bar area is lovely. There was also confusion over our booking for eight. At the end, the £50 pre-booking fee I’d already paid wasn’t taken off the bill automatically. I had to point it out, or I would have paid another £50.

The King’s Arms in Woodstock is a historic gem near Blenheim Palace, and the service made our meal unforgettable. I went with a friend for the tasting menu: luxurious caviar to start, then tender lamb and beautifully cooked, flavourful halibut. Exquisite fine pub dining, five stars.
A lovely pub and restaurant, and just right for today’s celebration. All the other meals were excellent, though the chef didn’t get the soup hot enough. Thank you.
We left without ordering and crossed the road to The Feathers, where we had an excellent meal, warm atmosphere and proper service. I’d suggest you do the same. This used to be the place to eat and drink in Woodstock, but Fullers have let it decline into a dreary, joyless pub posing as a restaurant. The place was nearly empty, yet we waited more than ten minutes without anyone acknowledging us. It felt bleak, with no warmth or conversation, just men in the bar loudly swearing.
They only told us about the power cut an hour before our booking, even though they’d known about it for more than six hours. We understand the outage wasn’t their fault, but because it was Mother’s Day we couldn’t get into anywhere else. We’ve been here before, but won’t be back.
