The Burlington Hotel was clearly well maintained, and our room was exceptionally clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a great night’s sleep in the cosy, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The one downside was the sound carrying through the older building. A family with young children were running around in the room above from about 6am, and woke us early. It was a little frustrating, but otherwise we had a lovely stay and would certainly consider coming back.

Don’t miss the restaurant, The Sea Pearl. The food is fabulous, and the wait staff are every bit as good as the cuisine. The people at the restaurant and front desk were always there to help. Our king bed suite faced the water, though the tub was a little high for me to get in and out of because I’m short. This is an older resort type hotel, but well worth a stay. The creaky floors and stairs give it a lovely sense of age. If you’re coming to Worthing, I’d stay here and ask for a room facing the beach channel. It won’t suit you if you like Hilton or Fairmonts, but even if you stay elsewhere, be sure to eat at the restaurant.

The seafront location is amazing, and waking up to the beautiful sea view was a real highlight of my February stay at The Burlington. The restaurant was another big plus: refined, very tasty food, a glass front overlooking the water, and friendly, welcoming staff. The rooms were very clean, with soft, comfortable beds, fresh linens and fluffy towels. The historic building is charming, but the old windows let in a noticeable draft. It was pretty cold in February, especially in the unheated bathroom, which was uncomfortable. You can also hear the road through the windows. It didn’t bother me much since I sleep with earplugs, but light sleepers might struggle. I was surprised reception didn’t have basics like umbrellas for guests or adapters for European plugs. For me, those feel essential in a hotel. The setting and sea view make this place special, but the bathroom heating and noisy windows really need to be addressed.

The sharing roast needs to be ordered by the Thursday before, and single roast dinners are available if you’d rather have your own plate. We chose beef, though chicken is the other option. It came as a whole joint with huge slices, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage. It serves 3-4 people and costs £75, which is excellent value. There was so much that we took a bag home. We finished with sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset, both excellent. We had a delicious sharing roast at The Burlington today, and another fantastic lunch in Worthing. My husband reckoned it was probably one of the nicest places in Worthing he’s ever been to, and I agree. The staff were professional and attentive, especially one waitress who kept checking that everyone had enough and was well looked after.

The bed was super comfortable, and the area was quiet. Breakfast was amazing too, with a sea view and a perfectly cooked full English. We stayed for one night, and I can’t speak highly enough of the service from all the staff. We had ten bags, and the team helped carry them up to the third floor and store them the following day. Highly recommended.
