Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

The staff were superb, friendly, and knew their stuff. A special shout out to Victor at breakfast. The hotel is beautifully kept and furnished, with its Art Deco look really coming through. It's an ideal base for a few nights in York, within walking distance of the city and its amenities. We'll definitely stay again.

Getting into central York from here was straightforward, and the location suited us really well. We were charmed by the old-world feel, and the room was extremely comfortable, with an excellent shower. Breakfast had loads of choice and was delicious. We were delighted from the first impression onwards, and wished we'd booked a longer stay. We'll definitely return.

The junior suite upgrade on arrival was a lovely surprise, and the staff were fantastic throughout. The service was excellent, though the room didn't quite live up to that standard, which was disappointing after an otherwise positive stay. There were several cleaning and detail issues. We found hairs on the bed linen, the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied, and the hot drink cups and glasses looked dusty. Some mugs were chipped or stained too. Over our two nights, sugar wasn't replenished on the hospitality tray, and no clean glasses were brought.

The full English breakfast was very good for a hotel and fairly priced. Staff were polite and cordial, if not especially enthusiastic. We had a roomy ground floor room with lovely Art Deco decor, a comfortable bed and soft pillows, which suit me. The shower had good pressure, and there was a nice selection of gels and other amenities. It's an old, quirky building with a cozy feel, a distinctive interior, and a lovely dining room and bar. The plumbing in the toilet was a little iffy, but nothing serious. We could hear people flushing and walking about, though it didn't bother me much. The location is handy for the station and buses, although the area felt a bit dark and poorly lit. I'd recommend it for a nice stay.
