Our host Sara welcomed us and did everything she could for us during our two-night stop. Parking was a bit tight, but we found a space out front of the pub. I drive an electric car, so I charged it in Helmsley, about 4 miles away, which wasn't really a problem. The room was spacious and very clean, with an excellent shower, great big towels, and a view over Beck and the village. Dinner was beautifully presented, though the portions were unfortunately small. Breakfast had plenty of choice with waiter service, plus cereals and fruit available for self service. The restaurant and bar were beautifully presented, and the break was well worth the money. The countryside around here is very pretty, and it's easy to get to Byland, Thirsk and York. We booked The Fairfax exclusively so we could have lunch at The Abbey Inn in Byland, so I can't comment on outdoor activities nearby. At The Fairfax, the pub and restaurant were lovely, the staff were friendly, and my room was cosy with a comfortable bed. Everything was immaculate. Breakfast was included and had plenty of choice. I had porridge.

The brother and sister working were great, and they even tried to find us a taxi. Really appreciate them. The service and food were amazing, and the staff went above and beyond the whole time. I'd highly recommend it to anyone after a lovely local pub experience.

The staff were excellent, professional and friendly, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. We stayed for two nights in an excellent room with a very comfy bed and an ensuite bathroom that had a bath as well as a shower. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, bottled water and chocolates were all included for free. They also had shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and liquid soap. We'll definitely be back.

We popped in for an early dinner at 5.30pm on a Thursday. The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic, with staff who were warm and personal. I'd definitely recommend it. I'd suggest booking ahead, as the place was filling up by the time we left and is clearly very popular. If we'd reserved a room, we would've happily stayed longer.
