I’ve lived here for about eight months and am stuck until my lease ends next February. I’m a 40-year-old healthcare professional working at a local major hospital system. I pay my rent, owe the property no balance, and have no legal dispute with them. I’m saying that because this is a genuine account, not retaliation after an eviction. My expectations are basic: clean air, hot water, and access to the amenities promised in the lease. None has been met. The worst part is the constant secondhand smoke from a neighbor who has been chain-smoking in his apartment and on his patio for months. It comes through my ceiling vents all day, and even my work clothes smell. Management has told me to “be patient” for three months. I’ve also had five packages stolen, including a desk. The “security” guy wears no uniform and has knocked on my door for reasons unrelated to security, including asking me to order something for him on Amazon. He no longer responds to my reports about the neighbor smoking. The laundry room was shut for six months, with little communication about when it would reopen. I was told 25 of 28 washers were broken, and other residents said they’d been broken for years. Management blamed someone stealing the exhaust fan, but that shouldn’t take six months to fix. I wrote a negative review, and that was the only reason they bought working machines. Before they were installed, management asked me to remove my review. I refused. Last week I came home to no hot water. Management blamed a supposed city “project,” then said we’d have to wait four days to see if the problem persisted before they would even call anyone. That meant four days with no hot water and no urgency. I checked with the city, which told me there was no project that would make two large buildings lose water pressure for more than four days. I’ve lived all over the United States as a traveling health professional and never seen such a gross lack of accountability. Here, management takes responsibility for nothing, always blames someone else, and gives no timeline for addressing its own violations. Four days without hot water and three months of constant smoke exposure are unacceptable. Move here at your own risk.

I lived there for almost four years, and the maintenance team was awesome. David is such a nice guy, and my service requests were always taken care of right away. Heather in the leasing office was friendly and very helpful too. My ground-floor apartment had soundproof walls, and the price was great. Being able to pay utilities and Wi-Fi together with rent each month was convenient. The location, affordability, and customer service make this a good place to rent.

Nothing about these apartments is luxurious. The pool works for only two months of the year, and the Jacuzzi never worked during the whole time I lived there. I was told all sorts of things before moving in, only to find out they don’t maintain anything. The laundry room was closed for six months after something was stolen, so instead of improving security, they took the facility away from residents. They still owe me $750 in rent I paid, and I’m waiting for it back. Now they’re trying to cut that to $350, claiming miscellaneous broken items and adding what I believe are made-up charges. It’s ridiculous and dishonest. I may have to take them to court to recover my money, after they already took me to court. I had a stove that didn’t work for ten months. I lost my job and was two months behind on rent, but I tried to keep my lease and did what I could. They knew I was struggling, yet went straight to court to try to evict me. Three different residents physically assaulted me, and the drunk neighbor next door physically assaulted my 13-year-old son. Management never took those complaints seriously, and I didn’t feel safe. The place is a ghetto. If you’re driving down Carlisle, go right by and don’t even look. This place makes over $3 million a month, yet they’re trying to keep my measly $750.

After almost a year, I’m glad to be moving on. I was told to give 60 days’ notice to leave. Since I was moving back to finish school in Las Cruces, I asked for an early release. Crystal suggested I find someone to take over my lease since units were still available, so I did, in January. My lease ended March 31, but they’re still charging me for all of January even though I returned the keys and found a replacement. My understanding is they had that person sign an eight-month lease. I wasn’t offered a short-term lease, and 12 months is too long for what you get. The fire alarms went off constantly, and my patio faced the encampment on top of the covered garage. Homelessness in the area is a huge problem. This isn’t luxury, and security is worthless. The office messages from Crystal were rude and condescending. Pest control is supposed to give 24 hours’ notice, but on more than one occasion I was notified and they were at my door that same day. The walls are extremely thin. When it rains, a roof drainpipe runs down the side of the building into the patios, leaving everything soaked. The patio doors were installed incorrectly, and after a while security became my biggest concern. I just didn’t feel safe anymore.

I could happily have stayed longer. My favorite part was my little private patio, where I hung my hammock and spent a lot of time. Not every unit has one, but the courtyard is peaceful and pretty. The fountains look like they’ll be lovely once they’re hooked up. The renovated apartments are plain but cute and well kept. I was surprised by how much I came to love this little gem in the middle of the city. The neighborhood is a little sketchy, but gated security, security staff making regular rounds, and a very sweet on-site security director who offered help made up for it. You need a badge for the lovely lobbies, and apartment doors have electric and bolt locks. Sliding glass doors have locks and a drop bar. The security director even offered to help with loads of stuff when I moved in and out. The maintenance guy lives on site too. He’s kind, respectful, knowledgeable, and quick to respond. Once, when he couldn’t get a part, he communicated well. He also went out of his way to work around my daytime sleeping schedule, which I really appreciated. The office staff were responsive, even after hours a couple of times, helped sort out my bill, and offer short-term leases for travelers, which is unusual around town. The billing app is easy to use. I was bracing to be annoyed when a few guys played cornhole, barbecued, and had music on over a holiday weekend. But they packed it all up and went inside before 9, which shocked me. I’d never bothered reporting my neighbor’s constant smoking because I’d had little response to neighbor complaints at other apartments. Someone suggested I tell the office, so I did. They said they’d look into it. It happened once more the next day, I reported it again, and I think they moved their smoking inside. I never choked on my porch again. I hardly heard the neighbors below or beside me. I heard dogs barking a couple of times, but the walls seemed quite thick. The one thing keeping this from four and a half stars is the laundry Wi-Fi. It’s nearly impossible and wastes a lot of time. Give me back machines that take quarters, or offer laundry in the unit.
