Extended Stay America Suites Amarillo West

This was the worst hotel we’ve stayed at, and we travel very frequently for turnaround jobs. The trouble ended with staff calling the police and putting my family out on the street at 8 pm. We were given three hours to empty the room and find somewhere else to stay, with a refund promised in 3-5 business days. Cooperate was closed and no help, so after paying for a new hotel we had no money for food. My one-year-old didn’t eat until 10 pm. The conflict started when I kept asking for housekeeping. They’d say “your names on the list,” but nobody came. Towels were another constant problem: I went downstairs with ours to exchange them many times and heard “30 more minutes,” “we don’t have any,” or that they had to save enough for housekeeping. They said they’d charge $7.50 for towels or wash clothes. I bought bleach and soaked them in the sink for ten minutes, and the stain was gone. The kitchenette was part of the room, which made that charge make even less sense to me. The front desk staff were completely rude and would disappear for long stretches, leaving a sign saying they’d be back in 30 minutes to pick up their kids from school. The elevators didn’t work when we arrived, so I had to carry groceries upstairs while holding my child. After I called cooperate, they seemed to look for ways to make our stay miserable.

At one in the morning, after a rough night and a long drive from Colorado, all I wanted was a clean bed and someone kind to help. This hotel had a room when 11 others in the area had none, and some of those places had extremely rude desk staff. We’d unknowingly booked a hotel in RATON, NM -Holiday Inn Express/Suites RATON that was closed, and during the desperate search I thought my son and I might have to sleep in the car. Thankfully we tried this one. The gentleman on the night shift was polite, informative, and sympathetic to our unfortunate adventure. I know reviews say the hotel is old and could use renovation, and it seemed a little neglected, but I’m grateful it was available on 01/03/26 and that he treated us so kindly.

We left and booked at the hotel next door. The “upgraded” suite had sticky floors, counters that looked like they had syrup on them, water-damaged-looking ceilings, and lamps that didn’t work. The building also looks like it hasn’t been updated in decades. There was a weed smell in the hallways, which didn’t bother us, but could be an issue if you’re sensitive to it. It also felt like a cockroach might run over you in the night. The elevator is still broken, as other reviews mentioned, and our room was likely on the third floor. When we got there, we thought someone might be in the room: towels were on the floor, the bed was unmade, and the TV was on. We didn’t investigate. The front desk woman was nice and moved us to a suite.

Clean and well kept, and I had no complaints during my one-night stay. There’s grab-and-go breakfast, plus fresh coffee made each morning, which is a real help on a long drive.
