Copper Whale Inn

For Anchorage, where hotels can cost a lot, Copper Whale Inn felt well worth the price. It’s a comfortable, cozy B&B close to the coastal trail and downtown, and the hosts were kind and helpful. The self-serve breakfast had plenty to choose from, though at first there wasn’t any coffee ready, so I made some in my room. Just keep in mind that checkout is at 10 a.m.

The rooms are all different, and mine had what I needed. There’s a comfortable living room guests can use throughout the day, plus luggage storage that came in handy when I arrived early and when I had time in Anchorage before heading to the airport. Breakfast had far more choices than the usual hotel spread. The location makes it easy to walk around downtown, and the place felt like a home away from home. I found the Alaskan hospitality I was looking for at the Copper Whale Inn.

Our family had a really nice stay at the Copper Whale Inn. We had three rooms, each with its own theme, and I was in the fabulous “speakeasy.” The staff clearly care about making every guest feel welcome. They gave us a bit of history when we arrived and useful tips on places to see and things to do. The inn is by the water, with several bars and restaurants a few blocks away. Breakfast was great, with fresh fruit and a good range of choices, including gluten-free bread. We only had one night, and I would’ve stayed longer. Since our flight was later than checkout, we could leave our bags there for the day. The street is somewhat busy, so there may be traffic noise if you need silence to sleep. I’m glad we chose it instead of a big chain hotel, and I’d recommend it.
