Best Western Metro North

I was visiting from out of town, and the way my cancellation was handled left me shocked. On Wednesday, March 4, I learned my reservation might have been canceled because I had booked with a travel group. At 2:44 pm CT I called the reservation line. The man asked whether I booked through the group. I said I thought I had, but wasn’t sure. He told me the reservations were already canceled and hung up without asking for my name or confirmation number. I called again on Friday, March 6 at 11:22 am CT, worried I might still be billed. It was the same man. He asked about the group again, but I wanted to check using my confirmation number. After I gave my last name, he confirmed the cancellation. I said I didn’t appreciate the automatic cancellation, given that I was from out of town. He shouted, “you should talk to (redacted), he’s the one who canceled,” then thanked me and hung up again. Right after that, I called the front desk and asked for the manager on duty. The person hesitated, then said the manager wasn’t available. When I asked why he’d hung up instead of offering to make a new reservation, he said I’d called to confirm the cancellation. That was true, but I was an individual customer. I asked again, and then he started yelling. I don’t know what happened or why my reservations were canceled. It seemed like there was a rift between the two parties that had nothing to do with me. Be warned, staff here may not be properly trained in customer service.

Affordable and it did the job. There was a lot of mildew, apparently from the swimming pool. Still, it could be great for a sports team, with a huge pool and good lounge space for parents. The exercise room even has a rack. Dustin (name?) was kind when checking us in and moved us to another room after our lights didn’t work.

The staff were fabulous, and the restaurant was fantastic. The room was clean, but the carpet was badly worn and well past its lifetime. The desk was missing legs on one side and had been propped up on the dresser. Sometimes we couldn’t get the door to open. An alarm kept going off in the lobby and disrupted the whole group’s enjoyment. I know a hotel by the highway will have some traffic noise, but this was like sleeping at a truck stop, or on the infield at Daytona Speedway. Traffic woke me so often that it was hard to rest.

The location worked perfectly for Ankeny, and we had a pleasant weekend. The staff were great and very helpful. Our room was clean, and both the AC and refrigerator worked well. The layout was a bit confusing at first, though we got used to it quickly. The pool area was warm, and the water and cleanliness made up for it. Thanks again for a nice stay.
