Sunshine made brunch especially enjoyable. She was quick, attentive, fun, and happy to adjust dishes for our dietary needs. Four of us came for Saturday brunch to celebrate two recent birthdays, and the log fireplace and view made Callahans feel like a cozy lodge, especially in winter. The food was excellent, tasty, and served in generous portions. The two meat eaters among us were amazed by the thick bacon, and we all loved the fluffy, thick pancakes with a subtle maple flavor even before syrup. The big pancake breakfast left us with plenty to take home. We’ll be back soon, and plan to try dinner when there’s live music.

Once we got past a rough start, we had a peaceful, relaxing stay. The staff were excellent, and the accommodations were as advertised. The room carpeting definitely needs replacing, though. We also enjoyed the live music in the bar. The problem was arriving about 1.5 hours before check-in after a four-hour drive. We only wanted to leave our bags in the room, which was ready, but were told that would cost $25. That felt like a very poor business practice and left us with a bad impression. We decided not to have lunch there because of it, an estimated loss of $60 or more and an unhappy customer. I don’t mind paying for extra effort or accommodation, but just opening the door seemed ridiculous.

I’ve been stopping here for two years while traveling between the PNW and the SW, and the staff are unparalleled. The kitchen is great, and on weekends you might catch live music. The acoustics are good too. Even though it’s rural, there are eyes on the car lot around the clock, something you don’t get from the motorcades on the old 99. I like it enough to stay up a couple extra hours to make it here. If you’re from the PNW, you’ll love it. Don’t take my word for it, check it out, as the youngsters say, “this place slaps harder than my step daddy”.

Terrible management. Our paid reservation, which we’d held for over two months, had been cancelled by them when we arrived on time. We had planned around the stay and driven three hours, but the manager didn’t seem to care. A young staff member was more willing to help than he was. He only said it wasn’t his doing. I don’t believe someone else simply cancelled a long-held reservation. Bad management. I’m glad we found a better place with people who really care and provide proper attention.

We made a last-minute booking while driving through, and the staff were all amazing. Jax checked us in and was so friendly. John helped print some things we needed for work, and after a great soak in the big tub, we slept like babies. We’ll come back when we can stay longer and enjoy the cozy atmosphere and beautiful area.
